TMJ Appliances
MORA
The Mandibular Orthopedic Repositioning Appliance (MORA), or Gelb appliance, has been designed to reposition the lower jaw and the condyle (achieves optimal neuromuscular balance as well as balanced condyle-fossae relationships). Dr Harold Gelb and Dr Clifton Simmons have proven the efficacy of the 4-7 position. The appliance consists of clear acrylic bite pads covering the molars and bicuspids, connected by a lingual bar.
NYU
The NYU is a modified Gelb appliance that covers the canines and has an apron of acrylic behind the lower front teeth to prevent shifting. It can be used for stabilization or repositioning
Farrar
The Farrar was named after Bill Farrar from Montgomery, Alabama. It is an upper anti retrusion appliance which prevents the lower jaw from dropping back at night and slipping off the disc . This appliance is most effective in those individuals who lock at night in the supine position while lying on their backs.
