What is craniofacial pain?
Craniofacial pain management or orofacial pain management is the emerging dental specialty concerned with the diagnosis and management of pain and dysfunction of the motor and sensory aspects of the trigeminal nerve system.
In the past, this area of practice was often referred to as temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). While TMDs remain a component, orofacial pain, is not confined to the masticatory system, but rather includes disorders of the head, neck, shoulder or systemic conditions that often masquerade as facial pain.
